One of the most ambitious YouTube channels Potato has ever undertaken for Google, the YouTube World View channel provides a platform for the public to engage with political leaders of global status - and each other. The channel, designed by Potato sister-agency Toaster, makes use of the Google Moderator API to allow users to vote up and down prospective interview questions, as well as the YouTube API to integrate traditional video commenting. The first world leader covered by the channel was US president Barack Obama, with UK prime minister David Cameron following.
Working with the YouTube and Moderator APIs, Potato worked rapidly alongside partners like the White House on the hugely important World View channel. They were quick to make vital updates as new leaders arrived and did a great job of adding multi-lingual support, too.- Ginny Hunt, Product Manager, Google
This year, YouTube's users submitted close to 140,000 questions for the president. Fellow users were invited to vote on which ones they considered the best. YouTube's staff then made the final cut to ensure that the questions covered a variety of topics.
What would you ask David Cameron?
